Sun Prairie Water & Light and other Wisconsin customers continue to enjoy the benefits of an electric system that is the envy of the nation boasting among the lowest rates in the country and the lowest rates in the Midwest.
As part of our commitment to the community, we serve to educate the public about the complexity of the electric utility industry and how proposed changes may impact the lives of our residents and businesses.
By "plugging you in" to accurate, relevant information about local utility issues and industry changes, Sun Prairie Water & Light believes customers, legislators and regulators will be able to make sound judgements and decisions about the future of the industry.
SPW&L Urges Customers to Make Payment Arrangements as Winter Moratorium Ends
Sun Prairie Water & Light advises electric customers who are behind on their bills to make arrangements with the utility to avoid service disconnection.
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission established the annual moratorium (Nov. 1 to Apr. 15) to protect customers from service disconnection during harsh Wisconsin winters.
Wisconsin’s Winter Emergency Period, often referred to as the moratorium on residential service disconnection, ends April 15. After that date, utilities statewide may begin to disconnect service to customers who are past due on payment of their electric bills for any period of time, including the winter months.
It is Sun Prairie Water & Light’s goal to do what we can to collect unpaid bills that may have accumulated during the moratorium period. Doing so helps to keep electric rates down for everyone in our community.
SPWL presently has more than 1300 electric customers having overdue balances representing $500,000. Despite these figures, most utility customers do keep their bills current. Nearly 80% of customers pay their bills on time each month.
********PLEASE NOTE, EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2008, ********
