New Law Revives Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficient Home Improvements
On October 2, 2008, President Bush signed into law the “Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008,” which offers consumer tax credits for energy efficient home improvements – windows, doors, roofs, insulation, heating and air conditioning systems, and non-solar water heaters.
With this signing, homeowners and apartment renters may now receive up to $500 for the purchase and installation of qualified high efficiency products placed in service from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009.
The tax credits are largely the same as those in the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which expired at the end of 2007.
